One day, while telling the story of the Three Little Pigs to my baby, I realized that part of the story was just a little too realistic. Mommy’s hairs on her chiny, chin, chin were there and accounted for. As I’ve gotten older, hair has been growing in every place I would never want it. It is almost as if every hair I loose on top of my head, I gain on my face. How do you handle unwanted hair?
There are so many options on the market today to deal with unwanted hair but not all are created equal. Some hair removal is more painful than others like laser hair removal and tweezing while certain forms of waxing and shaving tends to be a bit more gentle. The difference between all those options is how they effect the skin and what additional benefits they have. Laser can be permanent, Tweezing doesn’t pull or tug at the skin, waxing can be rough on sensitive skin, and shaving can exfoliate.

After years of waxing, plucking, and NARing my hair I have finally turned to shaving. Not only does shaving help with my unwanted chin hair, but it also helps with peach fuzz all over the face, the upper lip area, and even the brows. When we apply makeup we may not realize it, but our foundation, primer, and other powders and liquids stick to our little fine hairs. Shaving eliminates this while also leaving our skin smooth. It can aggravate certain acne issues and must be done on hydrated skin to prevent razor burn.
Below I share my go to routine for weekly face shaving. Though there may be stigmas associated with facial hair, its more common than you may think. Shaving is a great solution if you have unwanted dark facial hair, peach fuzz, want more exfoliated skin, smoother skin, or a better makeup application. Avoid if you skin is dry, over exfoliated already from skincare products, or if you’re experiencing certain types of acne.
Products used:
- Revlon Smooth & Perfect Face Defuzzers 4.99$ – Removes unwanted peach fuzz, facial hair, and can be used to groom brows (carefully!)
- Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream – Hydrates and gives skin a glowing complexion. Use at least 5 minuets before shaving to ensure skin has absorbed the product. Great to wear as a sleeping mask for hydrating overnight as well.
Personally, I absolutely love the results of shaving my face. It is so much less painful than other options and it is quick. I can do a whole face shave in under 5 minuets and the results also all week. You can do this as part of your skincare or makeup routine.
